How is remapping done?

ECU remapping process has 3 steps, these are reading pre-existing software from ECU, developing a new software by re-optimising related maps and writing new software back to ECU. For reading and writing operation, an interface tool is used with different connection types. This tool provides both to download a copy of pre-existing software from ECU to your computer and to re-write new software from your computer to the ECU. What are connection types in remapping?

An interface tool can be connected ECU in 3 different types. First is OBD (on-board diagnositcs), second is bench mode and third is bootloader mode. OBD is easiest way because you don't need to take ECU off to be connected. At the same time this mode shorten the period of operation. But bench and bootloader ways take longer time because the ecu must be removed, even the top case of ecu must be opened in bootloader mode. Operation times in remapping

There are three connection types (OBD, Bench and Bootloader) for reading and writing. Operation time depends on connection type for the vehicle. OBD (on-board diagnostic) connection is easier than others and takes shorter time. Bench and bootloader types requires to remove the ecu so take more time. But averagely, the operation takes 1.5 - 3 hours.
